IPZV CAMPUS: The effect of rider weight on horses

The presentation will focus on theoretical knowledge of rider weight in relation to the horse's body weight, as well as how rider weight affects the horse's exercise intensity, with emphasis on the Icelandic Horse. Additionally, ongoing and future research related to rider weight will be discussed.

About the lecturer: Guðrún Jóhanna Stefánsdóttir PhD., Guðrún has been working at the Department of Equine Science at Hólar Unversity in Iceland since January 1996, teaching and conducting research, while also actively contributing to the development of the department’s educational programs. She completed her PhD in equine exercise physiology, with a focus on the Icelandic horse, at the Swedish Agricultural University in Uppsala in 2015. Her research has, for example, examined the effects of the rider weight on physiological responses of the Icelandic horse.
